Fitzroy Readers Level 1
The first Reader, A Fat Cat, uses only 13 letters. This makes it easy for small children to start familiarising themselves with the alphabet. The first five Readers each teach one basic vowel sound: a, e, i, o and u. Repeated often, these vowels and many consonants become completely memorable, building confidence in young readers.
In Readers 1-10, easy words like I, have, to, go and for are introduced. Children will quickly learn to read these simple-sounding words. Reader 9 teaches the first digraph, oo, as in roof. This allows children to sound out whole families of words, including those which they may have never seen before. By Reader 10, children will be reading simple sentences with fluency.
